A man has been arrested by police at Lai King subway station in Hong Kong, a Twitter video has shown.
The man shouted in what appears an American accent: “what charge is this? Otherwise it is unlawful,” as more than five police officers surround him and two restrained him.
A further video shows five officers restraining him on the floor, turning his hands behind his back and restraining his hands with zip-tie handcuffs.
The man, wearing a t-shirt, shorts and trainers, repeatedly shouts: “do you agree with the rule of law?” as police arrest him.
A third video shows the man held against a wall by police as one officer points and shouts at him.
Visibly distressed, he shouts: “tell me why?”, adding, “This is Hong Kong, this is not China.”
The original video was posted by Twitter user @Jolisa_unicorn late on Saturday evening with further footage circulating in the early hours of Sunday.
Speculation as to the identity of the arrested man has been rife, with unconfirmed reports that the man is Sveriges Radio reporter, Martin Svenningsen based on a comparison of Mr Svenningsen’s press pass and the camera phone footage.
The video circulated as pro-democracy protests in the region entered a thirteenth week.
Video captured earlier in the day showed the man on board a metro train showed him speaking with fellow passengers and asking: “Why does Beijing want to hurt Hong Kong people?”
The video has since been restricted.
Anti-government protestors had shut down large parts of the Hong Kong subway system throughout the weekend as violence between police and civilians has ramped up again after a period of relative calm.
